Evaluation of PRA Workshop

This document contains handwritten evaluations of a PRA training workshop facilitated by Robert Chambers written by workshop participants. They include numerous comments and reflections on the appropriateness, acceptability and quality of training methods and exercises used, and on the general conduct of the training workshop. These comments would be extremely useful for trainers, and trainers of trainers, to provide indications of what workshop participants do and do not appreciate, potential shortcomings to avoid and suggested tips for running good training workshops.

The methods covered included trends in ecology and environment, Venn diagrams, socio-cultural life analysis, matrix ranking and seasonal calendars. Results of these exercises are presented. The report includes comments on difficulties in the learning process.

Training of PD2DT Village Field Researchers

This paper describes the process of training field researchers in PRA methods as part of the PD2DT community development project in Indonesia. The project's approach is to use participatory methods for investigation and analysis with villagers, providing communities with information about the IDT poverty alleviation programme, and allowing outsiders to learn about the nature of poverty in isolated villages. Section 1 describes how the training plan evolved over time to take account of unforeseen factors.
