Appreciative Inquiry Workshop : final report
Abstract
This document follows on from that described above and constitutes the final report of the appreciative inquiry held in Mauritania which was widely attended by World Vision and other local NGO's. The workshop was described as having two distinct aspects to it; firstly a theoretical aspect which lasted two days aimed at introducing the participants to the approach and a five day field oriented aspect which consisted of three participants going to the field for a period of three days. The report describes some of the key concepts involved in the appreciative enquiry approach and the various stages involved in the process. World Vision's reason for being interested in the appreciative inquiry approach is described as being primarily to reinforce/support the achievements of the participatory approaches already in place. The next section of the document consists of detailed descriptions of the various stages of introducing the approach to the three different villages of Mekanett, Moulkhouz and Berella. All three case study reports are well illustrated with diagrams of various maps, seasonal calendars etc. drawn by the villagers to relate their hopes and expectations. The report concludes with a list of recommendations that were made by the teams that were selected to visit the different sites. At the end of the document there is a collection of annexes that consist of various maps of the regions involved and the target villages i.e. participative maps of Moulkhouz for the past, present and future and a detailed list of the appreciative inquiry workshop notes.
