Trainers' Training on Participatory Rural Appraisal: Mirzapur, Bangladesh
Abstract
This reports on a training of trainers workshop hosted by Proshika, an NGO in Bangladesh. Its aims were (i) to provide training for trainers in theory and methods of PRA; (ii) to encourage a network of individuals to incorporate information learned in future programme plans and staff training within their organisations and sharing with others. The workshop process is described. It began with the origins and principles of PRA, and the methods for training and eliciting discussion are described. Methods, applications, training/learning issues and follow-up were discussed. The report concludes with the author's reflections n strengths and limitations of PRA, and notes that there should have been more reflexive consideration of the attitudes and behaviours (e.g. control of the research process) of the facilitators to raise facilitator consciousness.
