Publication year:
1998

This document presents a training course for rapid district appraisal (RDA) in regional development planning. It discusses objectives and methodology of training, regional analysis through RDA, and the various phases of the RDA approach. The methodology is a structured approach to regional analysis that combines various sources of information and involves all administrative levels as well as providing an opportunity to local people to get involved in a more active manner. The authors argue that it forms a suitable strategy to improve the overall quality of the regional bottom-up planning process by making its substance more relevant for and responsive to local needs.
