This report describes the rapid district appraisal (RDA) that took place in Indonesia. The methodology is a structured approach to regional analysis that combines various sources of information and involves all administrative levels as well as providing an opportunity to local people to get involved in a more active manner. The authors argue that it forms a suitable strategy to improve the overall quality of the regional bottom-up planning process by making its substance more relevant for and responsive to local needs.
