Recommendations for action

Publication year:
1999

The Organisation of American States (OAS) has, since 1997, forged the inter-American strategy for the promotion of public decision-making for sustainable development (ISP) following the 1996 Summit of the Americas for Sustainable Development held in Bolivia. The ISP comprises a Policy Framework which addresses the basic principles, goals and recommendations for greater involvement by all sectors of society in development decision-making. The Recommendations for Action is addressed to government agencies and civil society organisations and offers concrete measures for implementation by Latin American state and non-state actors. The OAS notes that the ISP has been informed by practical experiences and lessons gathered from around the hemisphere and that the Recommendations for Action reflects this process.
