Since the first AIDS cases were recognized at the start of the 1980s, Actionaid have been working in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention, support and care for affected individuals and families. This document reports on the work of ActionAid and its partners in 1998. The first section examines how Actionaid's HIV/AIDS programmes have evolved. The second section looks at the global spread of the epidemic. Section three provides a summary of Actionaid's and Partners work in 1998, with section four concentrating more specifically on programmes in three countries - Uganda, Mozambique and Bangladesh. In Uganda, emphasis is placed on community based organizations aimed at promoting behavioural change. In Mozambique, ActionAid is targeting national networks to increase capacity. In Bangladesh, ActionAid is supporting partners trying to change high-risk behaviour. Section Five assesses the outcomes, impact and influence of ActionAid and it's partners. Finally, section six describes some of the challenges that face ActionAid's HIV/AIDS work.
