This paper presents ideas about developing new media for visual two-way communication and documentation and how these ideas could give local people a chance to participate. This is mainly looked at in the context of the Rural Integrated Project Support (RIPS) programme in Tanzania. The opportunity lies in combining PRA "software" - it's attitudes, culture of sharing and is visual tools - with new mutimedia hardware for the production and presentation of video reports directly in the field. The paper looks at RIPs experience with multimedia, potential applications and practical issues in terms of equipment.
