Handbook on Land Use Mapping Resources and Sketch Mapping Techniques for Bangladesh

Publication year:
1991

This handbook is a follow-up product of a workshop held in Dhaka. The workshop objectives were to train in the use of mapping resources and techniques, and to facilitate networking among attending institutions. The handbook is designed to document the workshop learning process, and mapping resources and techniques, and to serve as a resource for future training in land use mapping. The first section contains details of organisations in Bangladesh which undertake mapping, technical aspects of cartography, different types of maps and techniques for mapping. The second section describes a field exercise and case study, including examples of different types of maps; questions raised by participants in the workshop generated from the mapping exercise; description of an application of mapping to a social forestry project; a list of resource persons and institutions in Bangladesh. Most of the discussion is quite technical and there is little discussion of the participatory processes in which the mapping techniques can be used. Remote sensing is referred to.
