This article looks at pasture walks as a way of farmers discussing, learning and taking action about issues that concern them. It explains how this unstructured way of farmers coming together and walking their land allows them to observe, learn, and make decisions as well as building relationships with one another and enabling farmers groups to be more competitive. It discusses the role of the extension workers in this process, where leadership comes from the farmers themselves and the extension worker acts more as a facilitator. It looks at the case of a farmer called Bill, his pasture walk, some of the issues that arose and how a system emerged to address these.
