This report describes the rapid district appraisal (RDA) that took place in Indonesia. It summarises the main experiences gained from the RDA training and describes the method, process, and lessons learned from the RDA training course. The methodology is a structured approach to regional analysis that combines various sources of information and involves all administrative levels as well as providing an opportunity to local people to get involved in a more active manner. The authors argue that it forms a suitable strategy to improve the overall quality of the regional bottom-up planning process by making its substance more relevant for and responsive to local needs.
