Training in Participatory Rural Appraisal for Comprehensive Watershed Development.

This is a report on the proceedings of two 3 day training and field work exercises held in India for NGO staff. The objectives were to: expose the project staff to the basic principles and methods of PRA; to demonstrate in a village setting as to how these techniques could be employed in order to gather comprehensive base-line data, and to prepare each one of the staff to participate as a team member in a PRA exercise. Methods introduced included; social mapping including the preparation of family cards, resource mapping, transect mapping, seasonality analysis, preferential tree ranking, wage pattern analysis, wealth ranking, linkages and mobility mapping. The reports has 21 pages of diagrams from the field work exercise.
