Successful Approaches to Participatory research: The On-Farm Seed Production Project, Senegal

Publication year:
1990

Almost all seed grains in developing countries are selected and bred from small farmers' seed stocks. This project addresses the need to improve the seed selection, production and storage of small farmers in Senegal. This paper describes a participatory project, involving small farmers and extensionists, to meet these goals. It included studies of indigenous seed selection and plant improvement practices, and of factors influencing small farmers' adoption of certified seeds.
