In search of farmer participatory approaches for research and extension in southern Mali.

Agricultural research and extension are both searching for methodologies which enable farmers to set the research agenda or express their demand for services. This paper traces the evolution of the Farming Systems Research Program since the 80s in collaborating with extension services in dealing with this issue. A case study is given regarding the use of an action research approach to soil fertility management.
