This manual aims to provide rural development workers with the information and tools they need to integrate indigenous technical knowledge (ITK) into their development work.
Beginning with an overview of IK-related issues, the bulk of the manual then concentrates on recording and assessment methodologies. Question guides are included on more than 20 specific subject areas ( ranging from aquaculture to credit and savings) to provide ideas and guidance on what to look for when recording IK and examples are given of methods which could be used for recording IK on that particular subject.
11 mini-case studies drawn from various development fields are used to show how ITK can be built into projects.
