Rapid Rural Appraisal Trek - Hill Crops (Samuhik Bhraman) To Solukhumbu, Ramechhap and Dolakha Districts

Publication year:
1989

This reports observations made on an eight-day RRA/trek in Nepal, emphasising land utilisation, especially growing of barley and other hill crops. Discussions were held with farmers to understand agricultural systems being practised and to identify the role of hill crops in farmers systems and the constraints faced by farmers in growing crops. Germplasm samples were collected and their analysis is reported. Several farmers were contacted who might be interested in hill crops technology. The report describes agricultural patterns and practices, and examines constraints on the production of barley, buckwheat, millet, wheat, grain legumes, and oilseeds. There are also comments on farm animals' roles in hill crop production.
