Participatory study of food security

Publication year:
1999

This is a report of a participatory study on food security in a village in Andhra Pradesh, India. Conducted by seven PRA practitioners, the study involved a field visit and used a cafeteria of PRA methods to learn the village demography, history, problems, production and consumption patterns of food items and the major sources of food and their availability. Working with three groups - men's, women's and the disabled -- the practitioners explore ranking of well being and problems in the village, chart out the service and opportunity map of food sources, and record changes in consumption and production by using the seasonality and force field analyses.
