This document focuses on work undertaken in Egypt by the Center for Development Studies during the 1990s in order to understand what can be learned from participatory development approaches in Egypt during this time period. The work is organised into four main sections: key impact issues, tools and techniques, participatory training, and ways of influencing decision-makers. It addresses questions such as who is demanding participatory approaches and what impact are the approaches having. The report also explores the definition of participation in the Egyptian context, and uses case studies to examine community views on PRA.
