Publication year:
2002

The Horizons Report is a biannual newsletter produced by the Horizons Program, which is dedicated to global operations research on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support. This issue contains articles on: a Dominican program to encourage sex workers' condom use; a study of linkage between social capital and safer sex, e.g. allocation of social resources to sex workers encouraged more responsible condom use; the Sonagachi Project, which has evolved from health promotion to a multi-faceted community effort to empower women; a sex work study which develops an innovative informed consent procedure; ethical guidelines for participatory research with sex workers; and the value of international consultation in adapting community-level environmental and structural interventions that go beyond the traditional health promotion model. There are also Studies in Brief on female sex workers' condom use; integration of HIV services and maternal-child care; and the cost-effectiveness of combining STI management strategies.
