Issues concerning participation in World Bank projects

Publication year:
1995

This document is a report of the Asian Regional Meeting of the NGO Working Group on the World Bank. Issues concerning people's participation in IDA funded World Bank projects are discussed, focussing on the constraints in ensuring true participatory processes at the Bank, national government and implementation levels. While the Bank is seen to have made some progress towards acknowledging the importance of participation, these still remain marginal at the implementation level. Recommendations for the World Bank and NGOs are also elaborated, which aim to move the participation process forward.
