Informal Workshop: Sharing of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) Experiences in Kenya

Publication year:
1992

This report concerns a workshop of PRA practitioners and organisations in Kenya to share experiences of using PRA in implementing and managing projects and to discuss challenges faced in using PRA. Applications of PRA and the some organisations using it are outlined. Lessons learned and challenges faced are discussed. These include the need to train villagers as resource persons, to strengthen village institutions, to follow-up PRA activities, to overcome apathy and resistance by development professionals and government. The conclusions are that local human resources must be developed, institutional capacity must be strengthened, physical infrastructure for supporting PRA is needed, and institutions should collaborate. There is a list of workshop participants and addresses.
