The elusive poor: a wealth of ways to find them

Publication year:
1992

A set of papers presented at a seminar on wealth and well-being ranking. Comments and questions during the workshop included discussion on whether wealth and well-being ranking would be appropriate, definitions of wealth ranking and exercising sensitivity when doing wealth ranking. A point made here is that no-one likes to talk about the money that they are earning, and therefore it is potentially very intrusive to ask questions about money.

Interest groups:
The last section of the paper, most interestingly, looks at the area of "questions left unanswered", considering such issues as the difficulty of communicating wealth ranking techniques to community facilitators, whether wealth ranking could be used over|Papers included in the set are B. Grandin, 'Background to wealth ranking', M.T. Sarch, 'The Adoption of New Agricultural Technology in The Gambia', and 'The People's Participation in Swaziland' and Ian Scoones 'Wealth Ranking in Zimbabwe'.
