Cultural sensitivities on the rapid appraisal team

Publication year:
1992

This one page article discusses the need for outsiders to be culturally sensitive when conducting forestry PRA in Nepal. It is suggested that when introducing their objective to a village an RRA does not say that they have come to "ask questions" about forestry, this sounds unnecessarily interogative and immediately conjures up accusations of illegal foresting. In order to allay any misunderstandings it is suggested that RRA teams say that they have come to "talk about" forestry and learn from the local community.

Interest groups:
This article makes a brief but important point for any PRA team conducting research where forest use is a sensitive issue.
