Action research final report : minimising the impact of HIV in East Hararghe and Harar : a study of sexual health amongst young people and the impact of long term illness on children in East Hararghe and Harar.

Publication year:
1998

Work with Anti AIDS clubs at schools in East Hararghe did not lead to the anticipated widespread adoption of behaviours to protect against HIV infection. As a result of this, Save the Children carried out some community based research to provide a basis for planning and programme development. This report details the findings of the research, carried out using focus group discussions and informal interviews to examine, in particular the reasons why young people in the area are vulnerable to the spread of HIV and also why children are vulnerable to the impact of AIDS on their families. Results of the research were analysed by participants at two stakeholder workshops leading to recommendations for assistance to communities and the basis of a proposal.
