Participatory methodologies in the planning and design of forestry projects
A four-page article reviewing the use of participatory methodologies in community forestry in China. It looks particularly at the application of participatory methodologies in the planning and design of a pilot shelterbelt plantation project along the Yangtze River. The initial use of RRA was found to exclude the poor and farmers, as well as perpetuate traditional gender roles. The approach was therefore adjusted and has become widely supported by local farmers.
