Preliminary comments on a wealth ranking exercise performed with forest user groups from three geographical areas of Nepal
The paper explains how wealth ranking was done with three forest user groups, and discusses some of the results of the exercise. The aim was to select participants from the user groups of different socio-economic backgrounds in order to compare how they describe and classify forest and agricultural soils. Three men and three women from each user group carried out the ranking, although the criteria and household lists were discussed by others in the user group. The method used is described in detail. The respondents carried out the exercise independently, and the scores were compared.
